December 29, 1946 - October 25, 2020
Charlotte Annette Wilks Carroll went to be with our Lord on October 25th, 2020 at 3:38 a.m. at the age of 73. She was a resident of Arlington, TX at the time of her passing. Charlotte was born on December 29th, 1946 to William David (Dub) Mullins and Edith Pauline (Polly) Hale Mullins, in Clarksville, TX. At an early age, her family moved to Grand Prairie, TX where she resided for most of her years. Charlotte graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1965. At the age of 18 she married Jerry Tipton Derr, by 19 she had one child and by the age of 24, a single mother of two (Darlena and Paul David). Charlotte was a talented florist and loved cutting and arranging beautiful settings for all occasions. Many of times her work came home with her and we would have flowers, ribbons, feathers and glitter all over the house! All of us kids have the best memories of hanging out at the flower shop, “helping” her, sometimes tagging along for a delivery or doing our homework in the flower cooler (Texas heat). She enjoyed country dancing, bowling and reading a good sappy romance novel. In 1973, she married again, and our sweet baby sister (Jenifer) was born in 1974. By 1979, she was a single mother of 3. Charlotte maintained her main job at the flower shop, but in addition worked nights and weekends doing multiple odd jobs, keeping her family together and fed. In 1985 she met and married Anthony Wilks. Anthony adopted Jenifer and they moved to his hometown of Arab, Alabama. Charlotte worked at the local Walmart in the Greeting Card dept and continued making floral arrangements on the side. She attended Hopewell Baptist church and was a highly active member of her church community. She loved the mountains of Alabama and the simple life of country living, where she learned how to can vegetables and drive a tractor! Anthony passed away in 1992, Charlotte was a widow at the age of 45. A couple of years later she reconnected with a friend from high school and married again. John passed away in 2001, and she was widowed for the second time at the age of 55. Charlotte was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her mid-30’s and it began to finally take its toll on her body, so she moved back to Texas in 2002 where she remained until she passed. In so many ways, MS took her quality of life, but it never ever took her spirit. Even as her body failed her, if she had family around and a milkshake, she would tell you she was “just fine”, always with a sweet smile and light in her eyes. Everyone that loved her can take supreme comfort knowing she is finally whole and healthy, dancing through the pearly gates into the arms of Jesus. She is survived by her sister: Paula Denise Jackson, her children: daughter Darlena Renee Murphy and spouse Michael, son Paul David Derr and his spouse Lysette, daughter Jenifer LeeAnne Lamgretse and spouse Shawn; 7 grandchildren: Karissa Dayle, Tylar Pauline, David Jacob (DJ), Desirea Renee, Zachary Seth, Roxi LyAnne , Raina Shae; 3 great grandchildren: Jackson, Anthony and Elijah; and a multitude of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial/ Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. November 3rd, 2020 at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield TX. Her final resting place will be in Alabama at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
