Pastor Steven Leon Brooks Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Steven Leon Brooks was born on February 11, 1950 to the parentage of Loman and Pauline Brooks. There were twelve children, of which nine survived. Four proceeded him in death; Laurine Howard, Norris and Bernard Brooks and Marie Amann. Steven’s childhood started in Los Angeles California in 1950. While both of his parents worked, his grandparents helped lay a pivotal foundation for young Steven. As a young child he was taken to church and the things he learned in church stayed with him and would later redirect his life course back to the Lord. Steven was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1970 and while in the Army, in 1971. He was honorably discharged in June of 1972. Steven was married to Bessie Love Mitchell and out of that union came two children; Belinda Chantel Brooks and Steven Leon Brooks II. After returning to Los Angeles, Steven started a long career with Santa Fe Railroad as an engine foreman, which the company later changed their name to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He stayed at the company until he and his family relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. In March of 1983, Dr. John Mitchell (Pastor of CCC Alexandria) invited him to a Sunday morning service at Christian’s Community Center of Los Angeles. That day at the Center, changed his life forever, he heard the word of the Lord taught like never before and received it. After receiving the Lord he was filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. In July 1983, Steven acknowledged his call to the ministry. Under the intensive pastoral training of Bishop, Dr. Will T. Washington, he learned the Lords blue print for overcoming in spiritual warfare. Steven answered the call to Pastor Christian’s Community Center of Fort Worth, Texas. In July of 1997 Steven and Wanda were ordained and they moved to Texas. Pastor Brooks touched many lives in a positive way. God continued to bless them until he was no longer able to truly pastor the church after being diagnosed with cancer in April of 2010. After much prayer Pastor Brooks decided he wanted to go on to be with the Yahvah, he told his wife and daughter of his decision, and asked that his family be called so he could see them one last time. On Wednesday June 23rd the calls were made and by Friday June 25th close to 20 family members arrived at his home to spend time and fellowship with him and each other. Dr. Perkins (Pastor of CCC McComb) prayed with Pastor Brooks and the family and then Pastor Brooks prayed: he said he was ready to go, he wanted to go and for the family to be strong and support each other. He took his final breath on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Left to honor his legacy: his devoted and loving wife Wanda Brooks, one Daughter Belinda Chantel (Brooks) Doss, son-in-law Minister Reginald Doss, one son; Steven Leon Brooks II, three stepsons; Darrell & Richard Baltzgar and Kenneth Wallace, two grandsons; Marshan Brooks-Finley and Thomas Baltzgar, granddaughters; Dineshia, Tiffany, Jazzmine, Racheal, Serria, Airelle, Leyoni, and Natanielle, brothers & sister-in-laws; Loman Jr. (Georgia), Charles (Jackie), Willis (Leslie), Robert, sisters & brothers-in-laws; Sadonia (Pastor Willie Harris), Stephanie (Darron) and Valerie Brooks, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. He was rewarded and blessed one Summer Sunday in June of 1990 when he spotted the woman he would spend the rest of his life with; during Sunday night Testimony service, her name was Wanda Wallace. Steven always said that if Lord would send him a great helpmate, he would cherish and love her all the days of his life.
