Marie Smith

Anna Marie Smith, 88, passed away peacefully in her Burleson home during the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 11, 2026. She was surrounded by family, love and a little laughter to ease the burden of letting go.

Marie was born in Fort Worth on New Year’s Day, 1938, to Nugent Alvin and Anna Myrtle Lunday. The family later moved to Rendon, where she met lifelong friends during her school days in nearby Mansfield. Shortly after graduation, she married George Edward Smith on June 19, 1956. Three children later, they built the home where the couple would reside for the rest of their lives.

As a young mom, Marie enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music by artists like Henry Mancini and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. In later years, she indulged in reading suspense novels and watching true crime series. Although she never thought of herself as an artist, she created eye-catching stained glass pieces that channel sunlight into stunning rainbows of color. She spent her professional life at Bell Helicopter and was happy to celebrate her hard-earned retirement after several decades.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, George Smith; son, Ed Smith; and sisters Barbara Maxwell and Anita Farris. She is survived by daughters Sheri Bumgardner (Rick Zepeda) and Dee Anna (Chris) Hanchey; granddaughter Amy (Jeremy) Jameson; grandson Dustin Bumgardner; great-grandsons Jett and Aero Jameson; sisters Janet (Vernon) Nelson and Jayne King; and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Blessing Funeral Home in Mansfield, Texas. The family would like to invite guests to say hello and connect informally in the lobby prior to their departure for a private graveside service. Floral expressions of sympathy may be sent to Blessing Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Marie’s name may be directed to charitable organizations dedicated to fighting dementia in all its forms.
