John "Brad" Downey, born on September 26, 1958, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on May 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and community service. He was the cherished son of John W. Downey and Mary E. Watson, and he spent his entire life in the town of Mansfield, Texas, where he was a prominent figure in the local community.

A proud graduate of Mansfield High School, Class of 1977, Brad's influence extended far beyond his educational pursuits. He worked tirelessly as an HVAC District Salesman, but it was his passion for coaching and nurturing the youth of Mansfield that truly defined him. For many years, he served as the president of the Mansfield Youth Basketball Association, a role that allowed him to shape the lives of countless young athletes. His commitment to the sport was matched only by his dedication to coaching his own sons in both baseball and basketball, instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.

Brad's love for his family was profound. He is survived by his beloved son, Brand Downey, his wife Lacy, and their children, Paisley and Brandley Downey. He is also survived by his son Travis Downey and his daughter Maggie Downey, whose lives he enriched with wisdom and affection. John took immense pride in his role as a grandfather, finding joy in every moment spent with his grandchildren.

His close-knit family also includes his nephew Chad Downey and his wife Brittany, along with their children, and his niece Dana Downey and her children. Brad shared a special bond with his sister-in-law, Shirley Downey, who will carry forward his memory with love.

An enthusiastic researcher of his family tree and history, Brad had a particular fascination with the Civil War and all matters concerning history. This passion sparked countless conversations and connected him with others who shared his interests.

Brad was predeceased by his mother, father, and brother, Dan Downey. He left behind not just family, but also a host of friends and acquaintances who were touched by his infectious spirit, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

Brad's journey through life was characterized by his commitment to his community and his family, whose love he cherished deeply. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

Visitation will be held on May 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at 401 Elm St, Mansfield, TX 76063. The funeral service will follow on May 13, 2025, at 12:00 PM, concluding at 1:00 PM at the same location. All whose lives were touched by Brad are invited to pay their respects and celebrate a life well-lived.
