Debra "Deb" Jones

August 1, 1959 — June 29, 2026

Mansfield, Texas

Celebration of Life Services for Debra "Deb" Jones will take place at The Community at Lakeridge, Venus, Texas, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 1 PM.

Debra “Deb” Jones, 66, passed away on June 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Deb was loved by many and helped countless others throughout her life of service. Most recently, she served as the Business Services Coordinator for the Texas Workforce Commission, where she tirelessly advocated for inclusion and diversity initiatives for businesses. Throughout her career, she devoted herself to serving those who needed it most, including in leadership roles as Human Resources Manager for the Walgreens Distribution Center and as a manager with Sam's Club and Lane Bryant. She was recognized many times for her dedication and service, receiving numerous commendations from organizations and leaders ranging from the Mayor of Fort Worth to Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

She was much more than an advocate for individuals with disabilities, however. She was a loving, caring, and nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother who always made sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. She cherished time with her family, including her husband of 27 years, John Jones; her sisters, Terry Denham and Kim Johnson (Tim); her three sons, Jason Shumaker (Kate), Jarvis Elekwachi (Amanda), and Jordan Elekwachi; her stepdaughters, Brittany Jones and Katelyn Jones; and her five grandchildren, Davis, Elliette, JMoe, Mia, and Jia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ann Edlen; her brothers-in-law, Rodney Scott and Robert C. Jones; and her sisters-in-law, Mary S. Jones, Sherrilynn Jones, and Darcy Jones.

Deb was born in Frankfurt, Germany, while her father served in the U.S. Army, and was raised in Columbia and Kirksville, Missouri. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business, before moving to Alaska and eventually settling in Texas, where she spent the last 30-plus years of her life. She embraced everything the Lone Star State had to offer and proudly called Texas home.

She loved traveling, especially to the beach, and expressed her love through cooking. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary, her biscuits and gravy were a family favorite, and every meal she prepared was made with love. She was also a talented crafter whose handmade blankets will continue to warm the hearts of those fortunate enough to receive one.

Deb's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for others will be remembered always. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
