Derek Donald Fox Lilly, born on September 12, 1988, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on December 15, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. He was a devoted son, brother, and father, and his life was characterized by a commitment to teaching and coaching, serving as a remarkable Varsity Football Coach in Mansfield. His passion for education and sports was evident, and he made a significant impact on the lives of many students and athletes throughout his career.
Derek graduated from Mansfield High School in 2007 and further pursued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he graduated in 2013. His love for teaching and nurturing young minds was paralleled only by his fondness for sports, particularly his unwavering loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys. He was known for his infectious enthusiasm and ability to inspire those around him, taking a stand for the underdog and offering support to those in need.
A loving Christian, Derek was dedicated to his family, cherishing his two daughters, Greyson and Emmy Lou. He is survived by his mother, Janice Fox Lilly; his brother, Kenneth Blake F. Lilly, and his wife, Malia; his niece, Jade; his nephew, Austin; and many other beloved family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
Derek’s passing has brought sadness to many, but his spirit and values will continue to influence those who had the privilege to know him. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Lilly; his grandfather, Donald Lake; his grandparents, Ted and Mary Fox; his cousin, Kenton Dickerson; and his aunt, Sherri Woolsey.
A memorial service will be held to honor his memory on January 5, 2026, at 2:00 PM, at the location of 401 Elm St, Mansfield, TX 76063. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Derek’s life and the positive impact he had on the community. His love for his family, his commitment to education, and his dedication to his beliefs remain an everlasting testament to the man he was.
