DeWayne Phears, 71, passed away peacefully, at his home in Mansfield on August 22, 2024. DeWayne was born February 11, 1953, to Pete and Betty Phears in Gatesville, Texas. DeWayne retired from Jack Cooper Transport after 43 years of service. He also grew up building homes and cabinets in the family business with his dad and Uncles. DeWayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Betty Phears, and his sisters, Cecelia Phears, and Sondy Wolfe. DeWayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Phears, son Eric Phears, daughter Tara Phears Taylor and husband Trey Taylor, grandsons Gage Taylor and Colten Honeycutt, granddaughters Kinsley Taylor, Carlee Phears and Celsie Roberson, sister, Velinda Mullins, sister Lecia Randolph and husband Randy Randolph, sister-in-law Jennifer Steele and husband Randy Steele. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 4 at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to First United Methodist Church Mansfield.
