Donald Taylor, born November 1, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Mansfield, Texas. Donald spent 48 fulfilling years in Colorado Springs, leaving behind a life defined by service, devotion to family, and a steady, easygoing presence that touched all who knew him.
In the early 1960s, amidst a backdrop of turbulence and change in the nation, Donald enlisted in the United States Army. His journey into military service was shaped by both circumstance and choice, leading to a remarkable 20-year career marked by discipline, endurance, and unwavering strength. Throughout his service, he completed multiple tours in West Germany, two tours in Vietnam, and a tour in South Korea. These experiences profoundly shaped his worldview and contributed to the resilient and grounded man that his family cherished.
Donald’s military accolades were numerous, including a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal, among others. His distinguished service earned him multiple Vietnam Campaign decorations, reflecting his commitment and bravery. Donald exemplified what it meant to serve with honor and integrity.
Comfortable in his own skin and proud of the life he had built, Donald brought a sense of steadiness and reassurance to those around him. His laughter was a constant source of joy, emanating from a heart that deeply loved music, cherished time spent bowling, and had an appreciation for cars. A true family man, he treasured moments spent with friends and family, always making room for smiles and sharing stories.
Donald had an easygoing sense of humor, accommodating and fun, which naturally drew people to him. He held a live-and-let-live approach to life, welcoming individuals as they were, judging only by the content of their character.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lisa, his five children: Mike, Cindy, Greg, Brian, and Tanya; along with 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who will remember him as a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The qualities that made Donald special—a blend of humor, kindness, and a gentle spirit—will continue to live on through them.
