Hope Garvin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 20, 2026, in Mansfield, Texas. Born on October 3, 1934, to Charles and Jennie Streetman, Hope was raised in the vibrant community of Oak Cliff. Her early years were filled with warmth, laying the foundation for a life devoted to kindness and service that would touch so many.
Hope pursued higher education at North Texas State University, where she prepared for a lifelong career in education. For 30 rewarding years, she dedicated herself as a school teacher for grades Kindergarten through fifth, impacting countless young minds with her compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment. Her nurturing spirit and dedication made her a cherished figure in the lives of her students and their families alike.
Upon retiring from teaching, Hope embraced a new chapter by working at Dillard’s for 12 years. There, her friendly spirit and helpful nature endeared her to coworkers and customers alike, further enriching the community she loved so dearly.
On August 3, 1962, Hope married the love of her life, John Garvin, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Their 46 years of marriage were marked by deep affection and mutual respect until John’s passing in 2007. Together, they raised their daughter Jennie, instilling in her the values of love and selflessness that defined Hope’s own life.
Hope’s interests mirrored her vibrant personality. She was an avid player of bridge and bingo, often enjoying these games with friends and family, and she delighted in crocheting—crafting with the same care she showed to those she loved. Additionally, her enthusiasm for watching sports was a joyful pastime that connected her to others. Born in Joplin, Missouri, and a graduate of Sunset High School in Oak Cliff, Hope’s journey reflected a rich tapestry of experiences grounded in faith and community. Raised in the Baptist tradition, she carried those values throughout her every action.
Above all, Hope was known for her kindness and selflessness—qualities that made her a pillar of support for all who knew her. She consistently put everyone else first, a true testament to her generous heart.
Hope leaves behind a treasured family who will carry forward her memory with love and honor. Her daughter Jennie and Jennie’s husband Randy stand as steadfast pillars of her legacy. She was a proud grandmother to Hunter, Hogan, and Harper, who brought her immense joy in her later years. Also surviving are her niece Leslie Neal and nephew Pat Cornuad, who share fond memories of their special bond with Hope.
She was lovingly preceded in death by her devoted husband John Garvin; her parents, Charles and Jennie Streetman; and her siblings Beth, Paul, and Joy, whose memories live on in the hearts of family and friends.
