James Elliott Foster, 87, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at his home in Alvarado, Texas. He was born on August 20, 1938, in Arlington, Texas to Franklin and Addie (Brewton) Foster.
Jim grew up in Arlington, where he displayed his talents on the baseball field, becoming a standout player at Arlington High School. Following his graduation, he attended Arlington College, which is now known as the University of Texas at Arlington. Soon after, he served his country in the United States Air Force for four years, where he worked in maintenance and had the honor of deploying during the Korean War.
After his military service, Jim transitioned into a career that spanned decades; he began working with the Arlington Police Department, taking a leadership role within the Reserve force. His professional journey culminated at General Motors, where he dedicated himself to the Human Resources department and ultimately retired in 1992. Committed to his community and family heritage, Jim also conducted maintenance and upkeep at the Johnson Station Cemetery in Arlington for many years.
In 1960, while stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jim married his first wife, Lorrie. Their marriage lasted 31 years and was filled with cherished moments. Later in life, he found love again with Sandy Koonce, and they shared 29 years of companionship, building a life together that reflected their mutual affection.
A dedicated sportsman, Jim enjoyed baseball, golf, and fishing—whether watching from the comfort of his home or participating personally. He was also exceptionally skilled in crafting, often transforming golf balls into delightful "puppies" that brought joy to family and friends alike.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Addie Foster, his wife Sandy, and his sister, Ann Nelson. He is survived by his three children: Dawn (Bobbie) Parsons of Alvarado, Texas, Anita Foster of Mansfield, Texas, and James Foster, Jr. of Arlington, Texas, along with his stepdaughter Happy Hayes of Florida. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Frances Newsom of Godley, Texas, Geneva (Milton) McCoy of Burleson, Texas, Wayne Foster of Joshua, Texas, and Don Foster (Dorene) of Alvarado, Texas. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Robert Peterson, Tanner Peterson, Amanda Jones, and Stacy Hodges, and great-grandchildren: Madison and Sylvee Marr, Colton and Cheyanne Jones, Ryder Fulton, and Frayah Curry. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, and a wide network of relatives.
