James Edward Roberson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we share the passing of James Edward "Jim Ed" Roberson, 82, of Arlington, Texas. James went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 19, 1943, to Louise Jones Roberson, in Roderfield, West Virginia. During his early years in Welch, West Virginia, he loved playing baseball. He later moved to Panama City, Florida, where he attended Rutherford High and his love for sports continued, playing football and running track. His class was the first graduating class in 1964.

After graduating he joined the US Navy and was on the USS Independence and the USS Shangri-La. In the Navy James was a Jet Engine Mechanic and a trained Helicopter Combat Support for Search and Rescue, he was a very proud Veteran.

After his years of service, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he had a job waiting for him at General Dynamics. His career journey took him from General Dynamics into the restaurant business in Wichita Falls, Texas, and finally to a long-haul truck driving profession that took him across the continental United States and Canada. In 1999, he retired from True Value at the young age of 55.During his retirement, James loved working on his car, his "pride and joy" Oldsmobile 442 that he had bought brand new in 1968. He loved playing golf, tinkering on his Honda Goldwing and enjoyed going on motorcycle adventures with his wife, Dianne. He loved sowing seeds for flowers that came up in abundance, which attracted the hummingbirds that he loved to watch.

James enjoyed spending time with his children and grandkids: riding jet skis and go carts, playing golf, going to baseball, soccer, and volleyball games, teaching them how to drive and mow the yard, and teaching about saving and investing money. They knew not to ask too many questions or he would talk on and on for hours and hours, he wanted the kids to know what he knew and to think independently. He had "Papa's Daycare" at home for his grandkids, who he referred to as his "Precious Cargo".

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Dianne Stubbs Roberson; his children, Bradley (Shelly) Roberson and Leslie Roberson Elmore (David Luttrell); his grandchildren, Cole Chandler, Kylie Brianne, and Courtney Brunson Elmore; his great-grandson, Mateo Daniel Ramirez; and his brother, Richard (Janis) Roberson, nephews Brian (DeAnn) Roberson and David (Sarah) Roberson, along with many beloved nephews and extended family members in Panama City Florida.
