Joyce Margaret Straw, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth. Born on August 31, 1940, in Cornwall, NY, Joyce’s life was marked by her deep connections with family and friends, as well as her dedication to her work and passions.

Joyce graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to build a successful career in retail as a cashier at Shop Rite, where her friendly demeanor and caring spirit shone through in every interaction. Known affectionately as “The Candy Lady,” she had a delightful habit of ensuring that candy was always on hand, enticing friends and family to take some before they left her home. This small gesture was a testament to her loving and generous nature.

On July 4, 1958, Joyce married the love of her life, Ronald Albert Straw, at Immaculate Conception Church. Their marriage was one of love and companionship, and together they created a nurturing home for their children: Sindie Mikulas, Barbara Yager, and Andrea Work. Joyce’s devotion to her family was unwavering, and she cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, Christopher Saperstein and Leighanne Mahon, as well as her great-grandchildren: Anthony Saperstein, Abagail Saperstein, Lorelei Mahon, and James Mahon.

Joyce had many interests outside of her family. She was an enthusiastic shopper, often receiving packages daily, much to the delight of those around her. Gardening and crafting also brought her joy, allowing her to express her creativity and nurture the beauty around her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald; her daughters, Sindie, Barbara, and Andrea; her grandchildren, Christopher and Leighanne; her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Abagail, Lorelei, and James; her sister, Joan Rizzuto; and many cousins who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Kemble and bonus father Leroy “Bud” Kemble; her father, Frank Coe; her beloved Great Grandma Testa; Son-In-Law Ronald Mikulas; and dear friends Eve Anthony and Pat Wolverton, with whom she shared many cherished memories.

Joyce Margaret Straw will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit of generosity and warmth will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
