Matthew Douglas Wright

Matthew Douglas Wright, aged 20, passed away at home in Mansfield on June 30, 2026. Matthew, the cherished son of James and Denise Wright, was born in Fort Worth on August 17, 2005.

Matthew attended Mansfield High School before completing his GED at the age of 18. After high school, Matthew worked at various jobs in Mansfield, but his true passion was in playing, recording, and performing his own music, as well as collaborating on music with friends.

Outside of his passion for his music and friends, Matthew was intellectually curious and physically gifted. He excelled at everything he showed an interest in. As a young boy, he loved to skateboard and could tell you about every US President. As a tween, he learned to breakdance, parkour, and consistently shoot a three-pointer. As a teen, he excelled at playing guitar, making beats, and freestyling.

Matthew had a gift with words and loved to read. His favorites were Norse mythology, Stoic philosophy, and the Bible. Although Matthew didn’t attend church in his later years, he believed in God and the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and found peace in prayer.

He is survived by his parents, James Wright and Denise DeArmond; his sisters, Rebecca Dieter (Byron Andrews) and Sylvia Wright; his grandmother, Mary DeArmond; his great-aunts, Celeste Locklin and Melva Thompson; aunt, Deborah DeArmond; cousins, Ashley DeArmond (Pat Leddon and family), Elizabeth Aguirre (and family), and Aryn Watson; nephews Orion Hoerle and Luca Andrews; and niece, Eleanor Hoerle. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Regina and John Wright and Eugene “Jim” DeArmond; and his great-grandparents, Douglas and Sammie Locklin. Matthew also leaves behind a host of extended family, cousins, and friends.

Matthew’s absence leaves a profound sadness, but his spirit carries on in his music. May his memories be a blessing to all.

Everyone who knew and loved Matthew is invited to a Celebration of Life July 19, 2026 at The Rail in Fort Worth from 3-5pm.
