A dedicated Communications Engineer, Richard made significant contributions to the fields of engineering during his illustrious career with renowned companies Motorola and Itron. His educational journey began at the University of Illinois, where he honed the skills that would define his professional life.
Quiet by nature, Richard possessed a remarkable sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He was a hardworking and reliable individual, known for his dependability and his deep love for his family. Married in 1985 to Sherri Jahns, who sadly preceded him in death, Richard was the focal point of his family, often bringing everyone together during cherished gatherings.
Richard's passions extended beyond his professional life; he found happiness in fishing and held a special admiration for WWII planes. These interests were more than hobbies; they were part of what made him a beloved figure among his family and friends.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his sons: Dan Jahns and wife Lee Ann, Dave Jahns, Dean Jahns and wife Becky, and Chad McKinney and wife Christy. His grandchildren, Magan Laczny and husband Michael, Aaron Jahns, Haleigh Jahns, Raven Jahns, Aria Jahns, Cameron McKinney, and Carson McKinney will forever cherish the memories made with their grandfather. Richard was also a proud great-grandfather to Daneka Laczny, Kaden Laczny, Devin Laczny, and Viola Laczny.
In addition to his immediate family, Richard is survived by his siblings: Ken Jahns, Bill Jahns, and Carolyn Jahns. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elois and Vernon Jahns, and siblings Bob Jahns and Karen Jahns.
