Sammie Dell Locklin

October 16, 1929 — June 20, 2026

Weatherford

Sammie Dell Odom Fricks Locklin, 96, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 20, 2026. She was born on October 16, 1929, in Venus, Texas, to Paul Marvin Odom, Sr. and Myrtle Henderson Odom, and was raised on the family farm in the Venus and Lillian communities.

A devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, Sammie poured love into everything she made and everyone she met. After graduating from Mansfield High School with the Class of 1949, she spent many years in retail and sales at the Top Value Stamp Store, Montgomery Ward, Dillard's, and Sanger-Harris.

On April 9, 1951, Sammie married her high school sweetheart, William David “Pat” Fricks, Jr. Their marriage of 31 years was blessed with two children. Following Pat's passing, she married Douglas Reynolds Locklin on August 24, 1984, and they shared 34 years together.

Sammie was a lifelong Baptist, and her faith shaped everything she did. Over the years she was a devoted member of Tate Springs and South Oaks Baptist Churches in Arlington, Walnut Ridge Baptist and Heritage Ranch Churches in Mansfield, and Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford, and she gave freely of her time, including years of service with Vacation Bible School.

Sammie had a gift for sewing and creating. Her handmade Father Christmases, teddy bears, and bunnies became treasured keepsakes, and in the 1980s she kept a store of her own at the Tandy Center in Fort Worth. She loved to travel and to host gatherings, and nothing pleased her more than listening to her family play old country songs and hymns. More than anything, though, people remember her giving spirit, and the way she made everyone around her feel welcome and at home.

Sammie is survived by her children, David Fricks and wife Vickie, and Melissa “Missy” Tarrant and husband David; her grandchildren, Shana Williamson and husband Cole, Zach Tarrant and wife Dana, John Tarrant and wife Ashley, Chris Fricks and wife Rachel Macklin, and Lauren Peacock and husband Ryder; and her nine great-grandchildren, Lily Williamson, Olivia Williamson, Ruby Tarrant, Luke Tarrant, Addisyn Peacock, Halli Fricks, Hank Tarrant, Sam Tarrant, and Austin Peacock; and her bonus family, Celeste Locklin, Patricia Gerleit (Steve and family), and Jim Wright (Denise and children Becca Deiarmuid, Gabby Wright, and Matthew Wright). She is also survived by her brother, Jack Odom, and is lovingly remembered by a host of extended family and dear friends.

Sammie was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Paul Odom; her husbands, Pat Fricks and Doug Locklin; her siblings, June Vaught, Mary Palmer, Addie Bechtel, Evelyn Odom, Paul Odom Jr., and Bobby Lewis Odom; and bonus daughter, Regina Wright.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm Street, Mansfield, Texas 76063.

A funeral service will follow on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm Street, Mansfield, Texas 76063, with burial to follow at Emerald Hills Cemetery, 500 Kennedale Sublett Road, Kennedale, Texas 76060.

Flowers are welcome, and those who wish may also make a memorial donation to the PrayerBear Program at Cooks Children's in Fort Worth, TX or to St Jude Children's Research Hospital for Childhood Leukemia Research in Memphis, TN in Sammie’s honor.
