Sharon Kay Elrod Gilley, 82, entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 26th, 2025. She passed away peacefully at her home with her sons at her side.
Sharon was born November 29th, 1942 in Fort Worth the youngest child of S.I. "Dutch" and Kathleen Elrod. Sharon was a lifelong Kennedale resident. The Elrods had settled in the area in 1854.
Sharon attended Kennedale schools where she was a cheerleader and talented basketball player. In 1960, she was crowned winner of the "Miss Flame Contest", a beauty pageant sponsored by Tarrant County Fire Departments in those days. She graduated class of 1961.
Sharon married Sam Gilley on December 30th, 1960 as a High School senior during Christmas Break. They were married over 56 years until Sam's death in 2017.
Sharon spent her career working in grocery stores and pharmacies as a clerk, department manager and pharmacy tech. She was a people person and all the customers she knew made a point to visit with her anytime they were at her place of employment. Sharon was a fun & loving mom and was a great cook, excellent housekeeper and organizer. She had a kind heart and a great sense of humor. She served as secretary & treasurer of Hudson Cemetery for many years and helped coordinate the Elrod Family reunions. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing with her beagles. Sharon never met a stranger and could sell you merchandise you didn’t even know you needed. She will be greatly missed by all those that who knew her.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, brother Hubert Elrod & wife Nona, sister Betty Jean Elrod Bass and her husband Duane. Sister Wanda Elrod Deaver & husband George. Brother S.A. "Sonny" Elrod. Her special cousin & sister-in-law Nancy Elrod Gilley, and Sharon's husband Sam Gilley.
Sharon is survived by her sons Billy and wife Tina of Kennedale, Bobby of Kennedale. Brother-in-law Eddie Gilley & wife Linda. Granddaughter Lucille Gilley Ramirez and great grandchildren. Sister-in-law Martha Elrod. Nephews Rockie Gilley, David Deaver & Phil Bass. Nieces Connie Cross, Luanne Ferree, Lana Sather, Rita Pintavalle, and many other family and friends.
