Timothy Patrick Houlihan

Timothy Patrick Houlihan was 77 years old when he passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 18, 2026 in Mansfield, Texas. He was born on January 20, 1949 at the Hospital of the Good Samaritan in Alhambra, California. His parents were Rodney T. Houlihan and Joan L. Segale. His dad obtained several degees moving them from Redlands, CA. to Albuqueque, N.M. and settling in State College, PA. Tim attended State College High School, graduating in 1967. He then entered Penn State University in the NROTC. Tim met his wife Joyce at PSU and they married at the beginning of their senior year on September 12, 1970. After graduation in 1971, Tim and Joyce headed to Athens. GA. for Supply School and Tim became a Supply Officer in the US Navy. His first duty station was in Newport , RI where he was aboard an oiler, called The Nantahala. In 1973, he was transferred to shore duty in Jacksonville, FL, where our first son, Christopher Michael was born in 1974. From there, we went on to Norfolk, VA. where he reported aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and was deployed for 7 months. Two years later we reported to his last shore duty station at Andrews Air Force base in Washington, DC. Tim was discharged from the Navy as a Lieutenant in 1979. Tim, Joyce and Chris moved to Arlington, TX where Tim had a job at Miller Brewing Co in Ft. Worth. Their second son, Kevin James was born in Arlington in 1981. Tim was a systems analyst at Miller for 35 years, when he retired in 2013. Tim loved his trips to Alaska where he and his dad fished for salmon; flying his own plane; thoroughly enjoying many trips to Jupiter, FL; and visiting Joyce's sister Lois and brother in law Bernie. We also had some great adventures both in Corpus Christi and in Mansfield with our wonderful granddaughters, Teagan and Sloane. But what Tim liked best was eating out. He loved good food, good wine and good restaurants to enjoy them in. Thursday night was date night and Tim was always a good sport about wearing something that I had picked out to match what I was wearing! He also really enjoyed going to our son Chris's DJ gigs. They were all such good times with all of Chris's wonderful, accepting friends and great music! Lets just say that everybody liked Tim! His smile came easy and was infectious, and he was trustworthy and generous; a genuinely good man - husband, father and grandfather. We live in a 55 and older community, and the residents had the flag lowered to half staff in his honor! The world will be a sadder place now that he has left us. Tim is survived by his wife, Joyce of Mansfield, son Christopher Of Dallas, and son Kevin and his wife Amy and 2 granddaughters Teagan (14) and Sloane (10) of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Wilson and her husband Mike of Arizona; sister in law Song Houlihan Of Tulsa, and sister Ann of CA. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Joan Houlihan and by a younger brother, Thomas Houlihan. He will be cremated and details of a service at DFW National Cemetery will be decided upon at a later date.
