Vera Delois Jenkins, 68, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025. Born on February 14, 1957, in Hamtramck, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of Leroy Ford and Elizabeth Dudley, and was raised in Detroit alongside her sister Jacqueline Hendricks and brother Arthur Hendricks Jr.
Vera graduated from Highland Park High School after attending Henry Ford High from 1969 to 1971. Her vibrant life took her on many paths—she worked in dietary services at Henry Ford Hospital, then moved to Nashville, Tennessee. During her time in Nashville, Tennessee, Vera married Sanford Jenkins. She was also employed with the Yellow Pages (Southwestern Bell) and eventually made her way to Arlington, Texas, where she worked at 7-Eleven as a manager, as well as Texas Health Harris Methodist Hurst-Euless-Bedford in Environmental Services, and then ultimately retired.
Vera also had a creative and lively spirit. She modeled in fashion and hat shows, bartended at Bert's, and was known for her love of modern dancing, fashion, softball, and playing cards. She brought joy and flair to everything she touched.
More than anything, Vera was a loving and caring wife, mother, nana, and friend. She was known for seeing the good in everyone, offering loyalty, kindness, and warmth to all who knew her. She had a heart of gold and a beautiful soul that left a lasting impression on countless lives.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Eugene Richardson Jr.; her brother, Arthur Hendricks Jr.; and her stepfather, Ronald Dudley.
Vera is survived by her devoted husband, Sanford Jenkins; her mother, Elizabeth Dudley; her sister, Jacqueline Hendricks; nieces and nephews Jasmine Moore and Antwan Hendricks; her children Robert Harrison, Sade Jenkins, and Crystal Perez; and grandchildren Damien Harrison, Amaya Dunk, Honesty Graves, and Makayla Hill. She is also survived by her stepchildren Heather Williams, Danielle Dowling, and Angelo Jenkins, and step-grandchildren Christopher, Ashley, Gavin Williams; Iiesha, Khadagia, Allyah McMillan, and A'Nyah Yates.
She leaves behind a large and loving extended family including cousins Marcus, OnDina, Brenda Vincent, Michelle and Frank Lewis, and Philip Collins; as well as lifelong friends Audry Hawkins and Shirley Williams.
Vera's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
